WHO WE ARE WHAT WE DO GET INVOLVED NEWS & EVENTS

Oakgrove

The Wildwoods Foundation is proud to announce that we are now the organizational home of the Oakgrove program, originally founded at Venice High School in 1972 by teacher Dale Stuck to address race relations on campus.

In the nearly 40 years since, Oakgrove has become a Venice tradition: a student-led human relations program that conducts bi-annual retreats that give students the opportunity deal with the complex emotional issues of their lives with the help of their peers in a safe, supportive environment.

A change in Los Angeles Unified School District policy regarding liab
ility for off-campus activities meant that Oakgrove had to find a new home.

All of us here at Wildwoods are
very excited to have Oakgrove as part of our family and we hope to help it continue for decades to come.

As we see it, the beauty of the Oakgrove tradition arises from the alumni engagement and support.  It's the very model of sustainability.  (Which is why it's so appealing to us.)

If you are an Oakgrove alumni, we'd love to hear from you.  We are in the process of working with the
current leadership council and recent alumni to continue the program and to document "how" it works with hopes of sharing the Oakgrove program with other schools.

We also want to document the history of Oakgrove.  So, if you have stories or photos that you'd like to contribute, please send them to Oakgrove@WildwoodsFoundation.org.

We want to build a list of alumni so we can put together a 40th anniversary reunion in 2012. Please click on the link below to join the mailing list and keep informed.   REMEMBER: After you click the link, you need to select "Oakgrove" under Your Interests in the second window.  And you can click on the donation link to make a tax-deductible contribution to help keep the Oakgrove tradition alive by sponsoring part of the next retreat.

Finally, if you have any questions about Wildwoods or about Oakgrove, please send me an email or even give me a call.  I'd be happy to speak with you.

Thanks!
