Tribes
Tribes is currently on hold until Spring 2012. We'll see you then!
, offered at 10:00 every Saturday morning at Vista Hermosa Natural Park near downtown Los Angeles, beginning in April 2011.
Travel back in time and take part in in the day-to-day activities that native California families practiced hundreds of years ago. This is an opportunity to be outside, learn wilderness survival skills, hear a story from a time long, long ago and create a family art project to represent your Tribe.
At Wildwoods, we believe that giving families the opportunity to slow down, talk and work together through these simple tasks and activities -without the distraction of television, radio or video games- gives them the opportunity to bond with each other in a new and different way.
 In ancient cultures, these were the moments when families came together to share and teach and learn. Traditions passed from one generation to the next. The skills that the children acquired were not only necessary for the families’ survival, but they were also rites of passage into adulthood. This is the spirit in which we create Tribes.
 We ask folks to leave their cell phones, iPods and Gameboys at home. Take a couple of hours to un-plug and just be together as a family. Trust us, civilization will be waiting for you when you return. And after the program, you might wish to stay at Vista Hermosa and explore one of LA's newest parks with stunning views of the downtown skyline.
The Tribes program is free to all families with children age 8 - 16, but space is limited, so reservations are required. (There must be at least one parent or guardian for every two children.) Call (213) 989-1955 or use the online calendar below to reserve your spot now. Spanish/bilingual programs are offered on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of the month.
IMPORTANT: When making your reservation, please...
- Make sure the drop-down menu is set to the correct program name (Tribes -and not to A Drop in the Bucket).
- Click on the date you want. If it's available, a blue time-slot (10:00-12:00) will appear.
- Click on the blue time-slot. A green box will appear showing that date and time.
- Enter your Name, Email and Phone Number.
- In the "short message" section, include the number of total attendees, plus ages of children.
- Also, if you are requesting a Spanish-language program, please list that in the "short message" section.
With a spectacular view of the downtown Los Angeles skyline, the Tribes program is based at the beautiful Vista Hermosa Park, 100 N. Toluca St., Los Angeles, CA 90026.
